After I bought it, I reached out to ask where it was sourced from, and the answers I got felt vague to me. Maybe it’s enough detail for some people, but personally it didn’t leave me feeling great about the purchase

"Not much aquascaping inspiration here"
I checked out modernaquarium.com hoping to get some aquascaping ideas, but it felt kind of lacking. The photos didn’t really give me much to work with, and I came away without any clear setup ideas... maybe it’s fine if you’re just shopping, but for inspiration, it was disappointing.

"Reminded me of why I double-check deliveries now"
My order showed up with the wrong items, which was frustrating. It kind of reminded me of a mix-up I had last year with a gift order, so I ended up having to spend extra time getting it sorted out. Not the worst thing ever, but definitely annoying.

"Hard-to-find items may not actually be there"
I mainly ordered because they had some harder-to-find aquarium items listed, but after I placed the order, a couple of them turned out not to be available. That was frustrating since I had kind of planned around getting those specific things, and I’m guessing their inventory system might not keep up with what’s actually on the shelf.
Customer service did respond and handled it okay, so it wasn’t a total mess. But I do wish the stock info was more reliable. For regular common supplies, I’d probably still consider them, but for rare stuff, I’m not sure I’d fully trust what’s listed anymore.

"Felt a little overpriced to me"
I tried it expecting a bit more for the price, but it felt kind of steep for what I ended up getting. It wasn’t terrible or anything, just didn’t feel like the value was really there. Maybe I caught it on an off day, but after paying, I was sitting there thinking I could’ve probably spent the same amount somewhere else and been a lot happier. Even my coffee on the way home felt like a better deal, which is random but true.

"Fish arrived in rough shape"
I ordered from modernaquarium.com and, the packaging was really not great. The box barely had any padding, the bag was leaking, and the water was cold by the time it arrived. One fish was already dead and another looked really bad. I did email them, but I still feel like the packaging should’ve been way better.

"Got mixed advice from the staff"
I went in with a few basic questions about setting up a tank, and I left a bit more confused than when I walked in. One person told me one thing, then another staff member gave me what sounded like the opposite advice. To be fair, I’m not an expert and maybe I caught them at a weird moment, but it didn’t really give me much confidence. I expected a bit clearer guidance from an aquarium store...

"Fish didn’t seem to match the listing"
I ordered a fish that was listed as one species, but when it arrived, it really looked like something else to me. I reached out to ask about it, but the response I got was vague and didn’t clear things up. It kind of made me feel like they aren’t checking the IDs very carefully before selling. it left me feeling unsure and disappointed, and I don’t feel very confident ordering from the site again

"Pretty good, just wish there were more plants"
I liked the selection overall, and I did find a few things I wanted, so I guess it’s decent enough. But I was mainly looking for more plant options and they didn’t really have as many as I expected. Not a bad spot, just kind of felt like they had a lot and not enough at the same time.

I was about to place an order, but then I saw a bunch of people in aquarium groups complaining about them. Maybe I’m being too cautious, but it just didn’t feel worth the risk to me, so I decided to pass.

"Compatibility advice didn’t really works out"
I was told the fish would be fine together, but they ended up fighting a lot. I have to rehome one of them, which was frustrating. Just felt like the advice wasn’t right, so I’m kinda disappointed.

I was checking out modernaquarium.com for some aquarium stuff, but I don’t know, something about it just didn’t totally sit right with me. The site seemed okay at first, but there were a few bits of info that felt sort of hard to confirm, and I didn’t feel super confident placing an order.
Maybe other people have had a perfectly fine experience, so I’m not saying it’s definitely bad or anything. For me though, trust matters a lot when buying this kind of stuff online, so I ended up backing out and ordering from somewhere else.

I was hoping to find clear care info, but most of it felt really basic and left out details I actually needed. I ended up having to search other sites anyway, which was frustrating. i kind of regret wasting time on it when I was just trying to figure out the right setup for my fish...

I spent some time on Modern Aquarium hoping to learn more about aquariums, but the educational content didn’t do much for me. It felt like the site was giving quick surface-level answers instead of actually walking you through things.

A lot of the pages touched on topics like tank setup, water quality, and fish care, but the tone came across more like a brief overview than real guidance. I wanted explanations of why certain steps matter, and I kept ending up back on Google looking for more useful details.

It might be okay if you’re just browsing products or already know what you’re doing, but as someone trying to learn, I found it lacking. I left feeling more annoyed than informed.

"Pretty close to the description, just not totally spot on"
I ordered from Modern Aquarium and overall it was about what I expected, but not quite perfect. The size and main features matched the description, so no big surprises there, but when I opened it up, a few little details didn’t look quite like they did in the photos. It wasn’t bad by any means, just seemed a bit nicer online than it did in person. I’d say the experience was okay, but the listing could be a little clearer. Three stars feels about right.

I ordered a few items my first reaction was, “Wait, what is this?” The portions were super inconsistent. Some were way smaller than I expected, and others just felt totally random, like nobody really checked them before packing. It makes it hard to plan out my tank when I have no idea what amount I’m actually getting. I was disappointed and probably wouldn’t order again

"I was honestly confused by the emails"
I had a tough time figuring out what they were trying to say in their emails. The replies were really short, and half the time I wasn’t sure if they actually answered my question or not. I ended up having to ask the same things in different ways, which got frustrating quickly. Maybe other people wouldn’t mind it, but for me the communication just felt unclear and confusing

"Pretty close to the photos"
Overall, it looked mostly like the pictures, so I wasn’t disappointed. The colors were just a little different in person than I expected—not a huge deal, but I thought they’d be more exact. Weirdly, I remember opening it while eating a pickle, and even then my first thought was, “Yep, close enough, but not quite the same shade.”

"Return process was really frustrating"
I ordered from modernaquarium.com and the return ended up being way more of a hassle than I expected, support took forever to get back to me and when they finally did it felt like they were just repeating the same policy lines instead of actually trying to help, then I had to follow up more than once just to keep things moving, and after all that I still felt stuck with the problem and pretty much ignored, so unfortunately I wouldn’t order from them again.
